Environmental awareness is a commitment adopted by The New School to raise awareness and preserve natural resources and ecosystems through its Model of Training in Consciousness.

The New School is committed to the care and conservation of the environment, emphasizing the continuous work on the institutional ecological program and developing with its students learning spaces focused on the incorporation, analysis, and monitoring of all types of renewable energies to awaken environmental awareness in them, as part of its founding principles.

One of its most essential postulates, “Education as a process that occurs throughout life and in all spaces,” emphasizes the numerous projects that seek to impact the environment positively. Thanks to its privileged location, it has favored the development of pedagogical activities whose references are: flora, fauna, soil, conservation of water sources, among other aspects that enrich a training based on Meaningful Learning.

331 TONS OF CO2 DECREASE, THANKS TO THE INSTALLATION OF SOLAR PANELS IN THE SCHOOL, WHICH WOULD BE EQUIVALENT TO THE NON-EMISSION OF CARBON DIOXIDE FROM 101 CARS.

This year, The New School will be able to supply 100% of the electricity consumption through 64.8 Kwp of solar panels installed on the roof of its coliseum. This translates to a decrease of 331 tons of CO2, which would be equivalent to the non-emission of carbon dioxide from 101 cars. The firm PMP Ingeniería has been his ally in this project.

Parallel to this strategy, they have other projects to preserve the environment, such as 100% lighting of the school made with LED technology reducing by almost 30% of the total consumption of electrical energy and a rainwater treatment plant converting it 100% drinkable.

Additionally, they want to diversify the country’s energy matrix by installing wind turbines as a work element for studying wind energy, which serves as an academic example for students as another alternative for power generation.

They also made an ally with the EAFIT University and the Botanical Garden. They planted sixty in vitro orchids in different school spaces, becoming a pedagogical scenario for students to apply research as a learning strategy, which motivates them to preserve species and enriches the local flora.

Undoubtedly, for The New School, the interest in discovering and learning is combined in a permanent interaction of experiences that invites young people to interact from the potential of joint mainstreaming from all areas of knowledge while leaving an environmental footprint in students’ formation.
